Government Tells Rajya Sabha AI-171 Crash Investigation Faces No Delay

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that there has been no delay in the investigation into the Air India AI-171 crash, stating that the inquiry is progressing in accordance with established procedures. Responding to questions in the Upper House, the ministry said it was not possible to specify a timeline for completing a major aviation accident investigation, as such probes involve multiple technical and operational factors that require detailed examination before a final report can be prepared.
The ministry emphasized that all probable causes and contributing factors behind the crash are currently under investigation, underscoring that no conclusions have been reached at this stage. It said accident investigations are comprehensive in nature and depend on several variables, making it impossible to accurately predict when the final findings will be released. Officials maintained that the investigation is being carried out thoroughly to ensure that every aspect of the incident is examined.
Providing an update on the technical investigation, the ministry informed the House that inspection of the aircraft's complete Thrust Control Module is currently underway at the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) facility. The examination forms a crucial part of the ongoing inquiry, with investigators assessing various components and technical systems to establish the sequence of events that led to the crash. The probe is also reviewing operational and engineering aspects related to the accident.

The ministry's clarification comes amid questions regarding the pace of the investigation and demands for an early release of the final accident report. It reiterated that aviation accident investigations are governed by internationally accepted procedures and require extensive analysis of evidence before definitive conclusions can be drawn. Authorities said the investigation continues to progress without undue delay.
The Air India AI-171 crash occurred on June 12, 2025, shortly after the aircraft took off from Ahmedabad, resulting in the deaths of 274 people. The tragedy ranks among India's deadliest aviation accidents in recent years, prompting an extensive investigation aimed at identifying the causes of the crash and recommending measures to enhance aviation safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
