Gang Poses as Customers, Steals Gold Necklace From Telangana Jewellery Shop

Police probe theft of gold necklace by disguised gang in Zahirabad.

Three women wearing burqas and a man wearing a cap allegedly posed as customers at a jewellery shop in Zahirabad and stole a gold necklace weighing around seven tolas, or approximately 70 grams. The incident took place on Sunday in Sangareddy district and has prompted police to launch an investigation. The group reportedly entered the shop together and behaved like regular customers before allegedly using a distraction tactic to steal the expensive ornament.

According to the complaint submitted to the police, the suspects asked the shop employees to show them different pieces of jewellery. While the staff were busy attending to their requests, the group allegedly created a distraction and managed to take the gold necklace without immediately being noticed. After spending some time inside the shop, the suspects reportedly left the premises. The shop staff later realised that the necklace was missing and informed the authorities about the incident.

Police have begun examining CCTV recordings from inside the jewellery shop as well as cameras installed in nearby areas. Investigators are attempting to establish the exact movements of the suspects before, during and after the alleged theft. Footage from surrounding roads and commercial establishments could also help investigators determine the route taken by the group after they left the shop. Police are working to identify the suspects and establish whether they travelled together or were assisted by other people.

Investigators are also looking into whether the group may have conducted reconnaissance before targeting the jewellery shop. Police are examining the possibility that the suspects had previously visited the premises to understand the shop's layout, staff movement and security arrangements. Officers are also checking whether the group could be connected to similar incidents reported in other parts of the region, as the use of coordinated distraction tactics is being considered as part of the investigation.

The Zahirabad incident has raised concerns among local jewellery traders, particularly because high-value ornaments can be difficult to monitor when several customers are being attended to simultaneously. Traders in the area have been advised to remain vigilant when customers handle expensive jewellery and to ensure that staff members maintain proper oversight of every item taken out for inspection. Security measures such as properly positioned CCTV cameras covering display counters, entrances and exits are also being emphasised.

Police are additionally examining a jewellery theft reported earlier in Tandur town to determine whether the two incidents could be connected. Investigators are looking for similarities in the manner in which the alleged thefts were carried out, the descriptions of the suspects and their movements before and after the incidents. If the cases are found to be connected, authorities could investigate whether an organised gang is operating across towns in the region.

The investigation remains underway, and police have not yet confirmed the identities of the people involved. CCTV footage and other available evidence are expected to help investigators establish the sequence of events and identify the suspects. Meanwhile, jewellery traders in Zahirabad and neighbouring areas have been urged to strengthen vigilance, particularly when multiple customers enter a store together and request several high-value ornaments at the same time.
