Ganeshotsav 2025 Begins: Mumbai Erupts in Devotion and Dhol Beats!
Ganeshotsav 2025 begins with vibrant celebrations across Maharashtra.
Maharashtra ushered in the 10-day Ganeshotsav with fervent devotion, as chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya” echoed through Mumbai’s streets. Devotees welcomed Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, with small, medium, and large idols installed in homes, housing societies, and public pandals, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of dhol-tasha. Mumbai’s vibrant decorations set a festive tone, celebrating the deity revered for prosperity.
For the first time, the Maharashtra government declared Ganeshotsav a state festival, with the state culture department organizing events to promote awareness of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s 12 UNESCO World Heritage forts, Operation Sindoor, and the spirit of swadeshi. The Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti urged mandals to maintain discipline and keep celebrations apolitical ahead of civic polls, emphasizing the festival’s cultural and devotional roots.
Mumbai police deployed 17,600 personnel, including horse-mounted units, drones, bomb detection squads, and dog squads, to ensure safety. Iconic pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, Chinchpokli, Ganesh Gully, Tejukaya, and the gold-adorned GSB Seva Mandal at King’s Circle, one of the wealthiest mandals, are expected to draw lakhs of devotees. Other cities across Maharashtra mirrored Mumbai’s joyous arrangements, marking a grand celebration of faith and tradition.
