FASTag Annual Pass Sees High Uptake in NCR and Southern Regions

Data shows strong FASTag Annual Pass usage in NCR and southern states as nationwide adoption crosses five million users.

The FASTag Annual Pass — a one-year toll subscription aimed at easing travel for non-commercial vehicles on national highways — is seeing robust adoption across India, with strong uptake reported in the National Capital Region (NCR) and several southern states, according to official data released by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). The latest figures underscore the growing preference among motorists for a seamless and economical alternative to per-trip toll payments.

Since its launch on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass has crossed the 50 lakh user mark and recorded more than 26.55 crore toll transactions within six months, MoRTH officials said. This milestone reflects rapidly rising interest from private vehicle owners who use national highways and expressways frequently. Approximately 28 per cent of all passenger car toll transactions on the national highway network are now being carried out using the annual pass.

Region-wise data highlight significant geographic variation in adoption. Among states and regions, Chandigarh accounts for the highest share of annual pass transactions at about 14 per cent, closely followed by Tamil Nadu (12.3 per cent) and the national capital territory of Delhi (11.5 per cent). In the NCR specifically, toll plazas such as Bijwasan have emerged as hotspots: nearly 57 per cent of total car crossings there are now recorded through the Annual Pass, while Mundaka and Jhinjholi fee plazas in Sonipat report around 53 per cent usage among non-commercial vehicles.

Introduced as an optional alternative to standard FASTag toll payments, the Annual Pass is valid for one year or up to 200 toll plaza crossings — whichever occurs first — for a one-time fee of ₹3,000. Eligible vehicles include private cars, jeeps and vans with active FASTag registrations; pass activation typically occurs within two hours of payment via the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI website. The initiative aims to reduce congestion at toll booths, minimise repeated recharges and provide cost predictability for frequent travellers.

Transport authorities say the scheme is now available at approximately 1,150 fee plazas on national highways and expressways. They note that the annual pass has made travel smoother for many motorists, particularly in high-traffic corridors, and could help catalyse further highway usage as more drivers become aware of the convenience and potential cost savings.

While adoption is widespread, experts and commuters alike continue to monitor how the Annual Pass integrates with other regional toll systems — particularly on state-operated roads and expressways not covered under the MoRTH/NHAI network, where additional tolls may still apply. Nevertheless, initial data indicate that both the NCR and several southern states are among the leading regions nationwide in embracing the FASTag Annual Pass as part of India’s broader push toward digital and cashless tolling infrastructure.
