Families Of Delhi Tragedies Receive ₹10 Lakh Relief After Saidulajab, Malviya Nagar Incidents
Delhi announces ₹10 lakh aid for two tragedies' families.
The Delhi government has announced an ex gratia assistance of ₹10 lakh each for the families of victims who lost their lives in the Saidulajab building collapse and the Hauz Rani fire incident in Malviya Nagar. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met the bereaved families at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday and handed over the compensation, while assuring them of strict action against those responsible.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister said that the loss of lives in both tragedies was irreparable and could never be compensated through financial assistance alone. She added that the government stands firmly with the affected families and reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and preventing similar incidents in the future.
Officials noted that in the Saidulajab incident, several young individuals with promising futures lost their lives when a multi-storey building collapsed in South Delhi. In a separate tragedy in Hauz Rani, a fire claimed the lives of members of a family, with authorities confirming that two generations were affected in the incident, deepening the sense of loss and shock among residents.

Speaking to the families, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that no amount of financial compensation can replace the loss of a loved one. “No government in the world and no amount of financial assistance can bring back a loved one. Human life is beyond value,” she said, adding that the administration is treating the affected families as its own and will provide all necessary support.
The families, however, raised concerns regarding administrative preparedness and emergency response systems, urging the government to strengthen safety mechanisms and improve coordination during crises. They emphasised the need for more effective enforcement of building and fire safety norms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Authorities have stated that investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with a focus on identifying lapses and fixing accountability. The government has also indicated that it will review existing safety protocols and take corrective measures based on findings from the probes into the Saidulajab collapse and Hauz Rani fire cases.
