Elon Musk Launches Sharp Attack On French Prosecutors Amid X Probe

Elon Musk clashes with French prosecutors investigating X over political interference and illegal content allegations.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has sharply criticised French judicial authorities amid an ongoing investigation into his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The comments come as French prosecutors continue probing allegations related to the platform’s role in political interference and the spread of illegal content online.

The investigation, opened in January 2025, is examining whether X was used to interfere in French political processes. Authorities have since expanded the scope of the inquiry to include allegations involving Holocaust denial content, the circulation of sexual deepfakes, and possible complicity in distributing child sexual abuse material. The case has placed the platform under intense legal scrutiny in France.

According to reports, Musk—who is being investigated alongside former X CEO Linda Yaccarino—recently failed to respond to a summons issued by French judicial authorities for an informal interview. His non-compliance has added further tension between the company and the investigating authorities, who are continuing their proceedings despite the lack of direct engagement.

In response to updates about the investigation, Musk posted a message in French on Friday, mocking the authorities with a controversial remark. His statement quickly drew attention online and added to a series of public criticisms he has made against French magistrates in recent months. Earlier, he had also referred to French judicial officials in offensive terms following a police raid on X’s Paris office in February.

The February raid marked a significant escalation in the investigation, prompting X to issue a strong statement rejecting any wrongdoing. The company described the judicial action as “abusive” and politically motivated, insisting that it had complied with applicable laws. Despite these claims, French authorities have continued to pursue the case, citing the need to examine potential violations linked to the platform’s content moderation and governance practices.

The ongoing dispute highlights rising global tensions between major technology platforms and regulatory authorities over online content responsibility, political influence, and user safety. As the investigation progresses, both Musk and X remain under legal scrutiny in France, with further developments expected as judicial proceedings continue.
