Education Ministry Unveils AI Transformation Plans at India AI Summit 2026

Education Ministry showcases AI integration in education at India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The Ministry of Education highlighted India’s push for AI-driven transformation in education at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, held at Bharat Mandapam on Tuesday. The special session, titled “Ministry of Education – Pushing the Frontier of AI in India,” showcased practical AI solutions designed to integrate technology into school, higher education, and skill development systems.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the Summit as a pathbreaking initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring AI as central to India’s vision of becoming a global knowledge superpower by 2047. “AI in education and education in AI are deeply intertwined,” Pradhan said, urging young innovators to harness AI for learning, empowerment, and problem-solving.

Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary noted that discussions focused on structured AI integration across foundational learning, research, skill development, and global leadership. The Ministry’s pavilions demonstrated India-first, scalable AI solutions, translating policy objectives into practical outcomes for students and educators.

Senior officials, academic leaders, and AI experts participated in the session, including Prof V. Kamakoti of IIT Madras, Dr Sridhar Vembu of Zoho Corporation, and Prof Manindra Agrawal of IIT Kanpur. Panel discussions centered on governance frameworks, indigenous AI innovation, national learning platforms, and responsible deployment of AI models to ensure systemic, large-scale impact.

Over the past decade, the Ministry has laid the foundation for AI-enabled education through digital platforms, capacity-building initiatives, and institutional reforms. The Centre of Excellence in AI for Education at IIT Madras, established after last year’s Union Budget announcement, will spearhead research and innovation to drive transformative learning outcomes nationwide.

The session concluded with a call to strengthen collaboration among government, industry, and academia to develop a national AI-in-education roadmap, ensuring India remains at the forefront of global AI adoption while shaping an inclusive, technology-driven future for students.
