Domino's Licenses Suspended as FSSAI Widens Crackdown on Food Brands
FSSAI issues 150 notices to major food brands over labelling violations.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has stepped up its enforcement drive against food and beverage companies, issuing more than 150 notices in recent months over alleged misleading advertisements, false claims and non-compliance with labelling regulations. The food regulator said the action covers several major companies and food businesses as part of its efforts to ensure that products available to consumers meet prescribed safety and regulatory standards.
FSSAI said its recent enforcement action has included several prominent food, beverage and consumer product companies. The list includes Nestle India, PepsiCo, Abbott India, Red Bull India, Danone India, Monster Energy India, Hell Energy, Mondelez India, Coca-Cola India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Ferrero India and Kenvue. The regulator said action has been taken against companies for various violations, with products also being seized in some cases. The enforcement measures are aimed at ensuring that consumers are not misled by product claims, advertisements or information provided on packaging.
The regulator has also extended its scrutiny to online food sales and e-commerce operations. FSSAI said it issued 12 notices to e-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart over compliance-related issues. In one significant action, the licence of an Amazon warehouse was cancelled. The move reflects the growing importance of online marketplaces in the food supply chain and the need for businesses selling food products through digital platforms to comply with food safety and licensing requirements.

Restaurants and food service chains have also faced action during the enforcement campaign. FSSAI said more than 30 notices were issued to food service establishments operated by major chains, including KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Domino's and Costa Coffee. The authority further said that five licences belonging to Domino's were suspended. The action forms part of wider checks on food businesses, covering compliance with safety requirements and other regulations governing the preparation, handling, sale and promotion of food products.
The food regulator said several companies have started taking corrective measures after receiving notices. FSSAI has been focusing on violations involving misleading advertisements, unsupported or false claims and labelling deficiencies, which can influence consumers' understanding of the products they purchase. The authority has also continued to examine energy drink and alcoholic beverage manufacturers, while taking action where it finds violations of applicable laws and regulations.
FSSAI's latest enforcement update indicates that the scrutiny is not limited to smaller food businesses and extends to some of the country's biggest brands, retailers, restaurants and online platforms. The regulator had also issued notices to several five-star hotels last year as part of its compliance checks. With more companies responding to notices by taking corrective measures, FSSAI is expected to continue monitoring the sector and taking regulatory action where violations persist. The enforcement drive underscores the authority's focus on accurate product information, responsible advertising, proper labelling and compliance with India's food safety framework.
