Did BJP Betray Ganga Maiya? Akhilesh Yadav Raises Hard Questions

Akhilesh Yadav criticises BJP over Ganga cleaning, calls 2027 polls an opportunity to remove ruling party.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday intensified his criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the party has “betrayed” Ganga Maiya by failing to deliver on promises to clean the Ganges River. Yadav echoed remarks made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, adding that calling the BJP a party of “thieves, goons, and traitors” remains an understatement.

Yadav questioned how large allocations for cleaning the Ganges were spent and recalled the demolition at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, highlighting what he described as mismanagement by the ruling party. He also expressed confidence in Banerjee’s leadership, saying she could win elections in West Bengal even if she contested alone.

Focusing on Uttar Pradesh, Yadav alleged that the BJP benefitted from the support of officials aligned with the party, influencing election outcomes. He pointed out that officials were not removed when the BJP assumed power in the state, claiming this gave them an unfair advantage.

Regarding speculation over a possible cabinet expansion in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav dismissed it as “political drama” and asserted that such maneuvers would not affect the Samajwadi Party’s preparations to remove the BJP from power in the 2027 elections.
