Delhi on High Alert: 30,000 Police and AI Surveillance Guard Republic Day 2026
Delhi Police on high alert with 30,000+ personnel and AI surveillance for Republic Day.
The Delhi Police have gone on high alert ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, deploying over 30,000 personnel across the city, including 10,000 officers in the New Delhi district that encompasses the ceremonial parade route and high-security zones. Officials said the multi-layered security arrangement includes barricades, pickets, and strict access control to ensure smooth conduct of the national event.
Over 3,000 CCTV cameras equipped with advanced video analytics and Facial Recognition Systems (FRS) have been installed across the city, especially along the parade route and nearby areas. These feeds are monitored round-the-clock through 30 control rooms, manned by nearly 150 personnel to provide real-time intelligence to officers on the ground.
Delhi Police personnel are equipped with India-made AI glasses integrated with FRS and video analytics. “If there is a face match with known criminals or suspects in a crowd, it can be detected instantly, allowing quick intervention,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahala. Mobile surveillance vehicles and snipers deployed at strategic locations enhance rapid response and monitoring capabilities.

A detailed multi-layered security framework has been put in place, including multiple levels of frisking at entry points, tenant and domestic help verification drives, and anti-sabotage checks along the parade route. Deputy commissioners have conducted thorough route surveys, while vigilance has been intensified in crowded areas such as markets, metro stations, and railway terminals.
Inter-state coordination meetings have been conducted with neighbouring states to ensure seamless intelligence sharing and preparedness. Citizens have been advised to follow security protocols strictly, be aware of their seating enclosures, approach roads, and designated entry channels, and avoid carrying prohibited items to maintain safety during the celebrations.
This year’s Republic Day marks a significant security upgrade, leveraging AI-driven technologies and extensive manpower to safeguard participants and spectators, reflecting India’s commitment to combining traditional security measures with modern innovation.
