Delhi Court Seeks CBI Probe Into MCD Practices Linked To Coaching Deaths

Court orders CBI investigation into alleged MCD corruption after coaching centre deaths in Delhi.

A court in Delhi has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to examine allegations of corrupt practices within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in connection with the deaths of several students at a coaching centre in the national capital.

The directive came while the court was hearing matters related to the tragic incident that claimed the lives of aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. The case has drawn widespread attention after concerns were raised about possible lapses in building safety regulations and alleged irregularities in the functioning of civic authorities responsible for monitoring such establishments.

During the proceedings, the court observed that the circumstances surrounding the incident raised serious questions about regulatory oversight. It asked the CBI to look into whether corruption or administrative negligence within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi played a role in allowing the coaching centre to operate despite potential safety violations.

The investigation is expected to examine issues such as approvals granted to the coaching facility, compliance with safety norms and whether any officials ignored violations in exchange for illegal benefits. Authorities will also review records related to inspections, licensing and enforcement actions taken against similar establishments in the area.

The deaths of the students had triggered protests and public outrage, with many questioning how educational institutions operating in densely populated areas could function without strict adherence to safety standards. Families of the victims and student groups have demanded accountability and stronger enforcement of regulations governing coaching centres.

The court’s direction to the CBI marks a significant development in the case, as it expands the scope of the probe beyond the immediate circumstances of the tragedy to include possible systemic corruption. Officials said the investigation will aim to determine responsibility and recommend further legal action if wrongdoing is established.
