Proceedings swiftly shifted into closed session after initial introductions, expelling the public—including Robinson's family—and halting the live video feed to debate disclosures from prior confidential hearings. Graf indicated a ruling on the defense's request to prohibit courtroom cameras would follow later Thursday, balancing intense national scrutiny against potential juror prejudice from inflammatory images or statements, such as President Donald Trump's post-arrest vow that Robinson "gets the death penalty."

Kirk, the 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder and staunch Trump ally, suffered a fatal neck wound from a single sniper round fired 142 yards away during a heated debate on mass shootings at an outdoor Utah Valley University event in Orem, marking the launch of his "American Comeback Tour."
