Case Registered Against TVK Candidate Prakash for Sexual Harassment in Poonamallee
Tiruvallur police investigate TVK candidate for sexual harassment; political tensions rise ahead of elections.
Tamil Nadu Police have registered a case against Prakash, also known as Kutty, a candidate of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), following allegations of sexual harassment. The case has triggered political controversy in the state, coming shortly after the party released its list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Prakash, who serves as the party’s Tiruvallur South district secretary, faces charges under multiple sections, including Section 6, and an investigation has been initiated in the Tiruvallur district. The allegations stem from a complaint filed by a woman who is a party executive, claiming that she was sexually harassed by Prakash during a wedding reception in Tiruvallur approximately six months ago. The event reportedly included several TVK leaders, including the party’s general secretary Anand, and other district-level officials.
According to the complainant, she initially raised the issue with party leadership at the time of the incident. However, despite assurances that action would be taken, no steps were reportedly implemented by the party. The matter resurfaced on Monday when the woman, accompanied by her husband, submitted a formal complaint to the Tiruvallur District Superintendent of Police detailing the alleged harassment.

Following her complaint, Tiruvallur town police registered a case and began preliminary inquiries. Police officials confirmed that the complainant has been questioned and that further investigation is underway. Authorities added that appropriate legal action will be determined based on the findings of the probe.
The case has taken a contentious turn with Prakash’s family rejecting the allegations. His wife filed a counter-complaint with the district police, claiming that the accusations are false and motivated. She alleged that the complainant fabricated the charges after being denied a position within the party.
The incident is occurring at a sensitive political moment, as Prakash has recently been named the TVK nominee from Poonamallee for the upcoming Assembly elections. With the elections approaching, the case is expected to attract significant political and media attention as the investigation continues.
