Canada-Based Iranian Dissident Reacts To Khamenei’s Death
Iranian dissident in Canada posts celebratory videos after Khamenei killed in strikes.
A woman who previously went viral for lighting a cigarette with a burning photograph of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has publicly celebrated his reported death following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran. The woman, who uses the pseudonym “Morticia Addams,” shared videos on X showing herself attending what she described as an anti-Iran regime rally in Canada, where she is currently based.
In one post, she wrote, “I said we’d dance on your grave, didn’t I?” alongside footage of what appeared to be a celebratory gathering. In another message, she expressed approval of Khamenei’s death, echoing remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump. Trump had earlier described the Iranian leader in stark terms following confirmation of the strike.
Addams first gained international attention in January when a video showed her setting fire to an A4-sized photograph of Khamenei and using it to relight her cigarette. The footage circulated widely on social media and became emblematic of anti-government sentiment among segments of the Iranian diaspora and protesters critical of Tehran’s leadership.

Describing herself as an Iranian refugee, Addams has said she does not disclose her real name for safety reasons. She has claimed she was previously arrested and abused in Iran due to her dissenting views before fleeing to Turkey. She has since reportedly obtained a student visa and is now residing in Toronto.
Khamenei, 86, was killed on Saturday in what Israeli officials described as a large-scale joint military operation targeting Iranian leadership sites. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the compound in Tehran associated with the supreme leader had been destroyed, while Iranian media reported additional casualties among his family members. The strikes, involving hundreds of aircraft and multiple targets across Iran, have intensified tensions in an already volatile region and triggered sharply divided reactions worldwide.
