Blinkit CFO Vipin Kapooria Steps Down After One Year, Likely To Rejoin Flipkart
Blinkit CFO Vipin Kapooria steps down after one year, with reports suggesting a return to Flipkart.
Vipin Kapooria, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Blinkit, has stepped down from his role after just over a year, with sources indicating he is likely to rejoin Flipkart Group in a senior capacity. Kapooria had taken charge as CFO of Blinkit in October 2024, bringing extensive financial expertise from his previous stint at Flipkart, where he served in various senior finance roles over nearly a decade. His departure, announced internally on December 30, 2025, comes as Blinkit continues its rapid expansion in the quick-commerce space under the Zomato umbrella.
During his tenure, Kapooria played a key role in strengthening Blinkit's financial operations amid aggressive growth, including scaling its dark store network, optimizing unit economics, and supporting fundraising efforts. Blinkit, which operates in over 30 cities and delivers groceries and essentials in minutes, has seen significant revenue growth but also faces challenges in achieving profitability due to high customer acquisition costs and intense competition from players like Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. Kapooria's exit is seen as a natural career progression, with insiders suggesting he will return to Flipkart, where he had built strong relationships and contributed to the company's financial strategy before moving to Blinkit.
Flipkart, one of India's largest e-commerce platforms and a direct competitor to Amazon in the country, has been restructuring its leadership team in recent months to prepare for potential future IPO plans and to strengthen its position in quick commerce through its own arm, Flipkart Minutes. Kapooria's return is expected to bolster Flipkart's finance function, particularly as the company navigates regulatory scrutiny, supply chain investments, and increasing competition in both traditional e-commerce and ultra-fast delivery segments.

Blinkit has not yet announced a successor for the CFO position, though the company is likely to move swiftly to fill the role given its high-growth trajectory. Zomato, Blinkit's parent company, has maintained a strong focus on financial discipline and operational efficiency, with CEO Deepinder Goyal emphasizing sustainable unit economics as the path to profitability. Kapooria's brief but impactful tenure is viewed positively within the organization, and his move back to Flipkart is considered a win-win for both parties.
The leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for India's quick-commerce sector, where companies are racing to capture market share while managing burn rates and investor expectations. As Vipin Kapooria prepares to rejoin Flipkart, his experience across both traditional e-commerce and hyperlocal delivery will be closely watched by industry observers tracking the evolving dynamics of Indian retail and technology.
