BCB Condemns Own Director's "Indian Agent" Remark on Tamim Iqbal, Vows Discipline

BCB disassociates from the director's offensive comment on Tamim Iqbal and reaffirms player respect amid CWAB's resignation ultimatum.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed regret over controversial remarks made by its director, M Nazmul Islam, who labelled former captain Tamim Iqbal as an “Indian agent.” In an official statement, the Board clarified that such comments do not represent its official stance or values and warned of disciplinary action against conduct that disrespects players or harms the reputation of Bangladesh cricket.

The statement comes amid mounting backlash from players, with the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) issuing an ultimatum demanding Islam’s resignation. Several current and former cricketers publicly condemned the remark, emphasizing that it undermines the integrity of the sport and the trust between players and administrators.

Earlier, Tamim Iqbal had suggested that dialogue should resolve tensions surrounding Bangladesh’s cricketing ties with India, particularly after pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL 2026 squad. Following Islam’s comment, Tamim reiterated that sensitive matters should be addressed internally within the BCB before public statements are made, stressing that Bangladesh cricket’s future must remain the priority.

In its release, the BCB reaffirmed its full support for all cricketers, past and present, highlighting that players remain at the heart of Bangladesh cricket. The Board stressed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and mutual respect across all levels of the game, pledging to protect the welfare, dignity, and interests of its players.

Amid uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in T20 World Cup fixtures in India, the Board has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider relocating matches outside India due to safety and security concerns. The ongoing controversy has intensified calls from both players and fans for more responsible and sensitive leadership within the BCB.

The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with prominent players such as Mominul Haque, Taskin Ahmed, and Taijul Islam publicly backing Tamim and condemning the director’s comments on social media, highlighting the urgent need for internal reforms and accountability within the cricketing administration.
