Banks to Remain Closed in Odisha, Uttarakhand, Manipur on July 16

Banks closed today in Odisha, Uttarakhand, Manipur for regional festivals.

Banks in select parts of India will remain closed on Thursday, July 16, in observance of regional festivals, according to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar for the 2026–27 financial year. The closures apply only to specific states, while banking operations will continue as usual across the rest of the country. Customers are advised to check local holiday schedules before visiting bank branches.

On July 16, bank branches will remain closed in Odisha for Rath Yatra, Uttarakhand for Harela and Manipur for Kang, which are observed as regional public holidays. These closures are applicable only in the respective states. Banks in all other states and Union Territories are expected to function normally unless otherwise notified by local authorities.

The RBI prepares its annual bank holiday calendar based on national, state-specific and religious occasions observed across the country. In addition to festival-related holidays, banks remain closed every second and fourth Saturday of the month, as well as on all Sundays. Since holiday schedules vary by state, customers are encouraged to verify local branch operations before planning in-person banking activities.

Although physical branches remain closed on designated holidays, most banking services continue to be available through digital channels. Customers can access internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs, UPI, NEFT, IMPS and other online services to carry out routine financial transactions, including fund transfers, bill payments and account management, without interruption.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, the next scheduled regional bank holiday will be observed in Sikkim for the death anniversary of U Tirot Singh. As with other regional holidays, the closure will apply only to bank branches in the notified state, while operations elsewhere in the country are expected to continue as normal.

Customers requiring services such as cash deposits, cheque clearance, demand drafts or other branch-based transactions should plan their visits accordingly in states observing the holiday. The RBI advises customers to make use of digital banking platforms wherever possible to ensure uninterrupted access to essential financial services during bank holidays.
