Bangladesh Jatiya Party Makes Its Presence Felt With Victory in Bhola-1 Constituency
The Bangladesh Jatiya Party wins a single seat in the general elections as Partho secures the Bhola-1 victory.
The Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) has secured a single seat in Bangladesh’s 13th General Elections, with its candidate Andaleeve Rahman Partho winning from the Bhola-1 constituency. Despite the familiar acronym, the party is unrelated to India’s Bharatiya Janata Party. The result marks a modest but notable presence for the Bangladesh Jatiya Party in the national polls.
According to official results released by the Election Commission, Partho polled 105,543 votes, comfortably defeating his nearest rival, Md Nazrul Islam of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who secured 75,337 votes. The victory ensured the party’s representation in Parliament even as larger alliances dominated the electoral landscape.
Overall, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies emerged as the biggest winners, capturing 212 of the 297 declared seats, with the BNP alone winning 209. Among allied parties, the Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Ganosamhati Andolan, and Gono Odhikar Parishad won one seat each. Meanwhile, Jamaat and its partners collectively secured 77 seats, including 68 won by Jamaat.

During the campaign, Partho had promised to transform Bhola into the southern region’s “Tilottama”, outlining an ambitious development agenda. His key pledges included construction of the Bhola-Barishal Bridge, establishment of a medical college, expansion of healthcare services, and provision of household gas connections. He also vowed to intensify efforts against drug abuse and strengthen basic civic infrastructure in the district.
Partho, a lawyer and educationist, previously served as a Member of Parliament from Bhola-1 and is currently the principal of the British School of Law in Dhaka. His political career began in 2008, and he later served on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Establishment (now the Ministry of Public Administration).
The election saw participation from 50 political parties and 2,028 candidates, including 273 independents and 83 women contestants. While the Bangladesh Jatiya Party’s win was limited to a single constituency, the result keeps the party politically relevant amid a sweeping mandate for the BNP-led alliance.
