Directed to close manholes and repair Guwahati roads before Durga Puja.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to urgently prioritise key infrastructure tasks in Guwahati and other districts to ensure smooth festivities for the upcoming Durga Puja. During a meeting with PWD officials on Tuesday night, Sarma emphasised the need to close manholes, repair footpaths, and fix roads, treating these efforts as a top priority to enhance public safety and convenience.

Sarma directed officials to develop a standard operating procedure (SOP) for properly covering manholes after drain cleaning to prevent accidents. He also stressed making the under-construction flyover stretch from Noonmati to Dighalipukhuri more accessible for the public before the festival.

Additionally, immediate repairs were ordered for major roads in Guwahati, as well as in the Cachar and Sribhumi districts, to handle the expected increase in traffic and gatherings.

The meeting included key attendees such as Principal Secretary to the CM K. K. Dwivedi, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Commissioner M. S. Lakshmipriya, PWD Commissioner and Special Secretary Paban Terang, Special Secretary Bibhuti Saikia, Chief Engineer (Roads) Sanjib Shyam, and other senior officials.

These directives reflect the government's focus on maintaining infrastructure and public welfare during major cultural events, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable celebration for residents.
