Apple Accelerates India Expansion: Second Mumbai Store Coming Soon, Chennai Corporate Office in Works

Tech giant eyes deeper retail and operational footprint amid record growth in the market

Apple is ramping up its presence in India with plans for a second retail store in Mumbai, as confirmed by CEO Tim Cook during the company’s fiscal Q1 2026 earnings call. The announcement follows the successful opening of Apple’s fifth store in India—Apple Noida—in the December quarter, marking its second outlet in the Delhi-NCR region at the Delhi Mall of India in Sector 18. Cook highlighted robust double-digit revenue growth in India and the company’s strongest December quarter ever, crediting the expanding retail network and a rapidly growing installed base.

While no specific location or exact opening date was shared for the new Mumbai store, it will join Apple BKC—the brand’s first official Indian outlet, launched in August 2023 at Jio World Drive Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex. Earlier speculation pointed to Oberoi Sky City Mall in Borivali, but Apple executives did not confirm any site. The upcoming store will offer the full Apple retail experience, including product sales, specialist consultations, Today at Apple sessions, and device support services.

In parallel, reports indicate Apple is establishing its first dedicated corporate office in Chennai. According to News9Live, the company has leased approximately 20,000 square feet at DLF CyberCity IT Park in Porur to set up a Global Capability Centre. This move is expected to shift focus from manufacturing operations in the city to managing key global functions, leveraging Chennai’s strong infrastructure, proximity to the airport, and upcoming metro connectivity.
