Andhra Pradesh Implements Strict Ebola Screening for International Arrivals

Andhra Pradesh conducts strict Ebola screening for international arrivals; 183 passengers tested today.

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up screening measures at airports amid growing concerns over the global spread of the Ebola virus. Health officials are conducting special checks for passengers arriving from foreign countries, particularly those landing from Singapore at Vijayawada International Airport.

According to officials, medical teams screened 183 passengers who arrived from Singapore as part of precautionary protocols issued by the state government. Doctors confirmed that no traveller has shown Ebola-related symptoms so far, though quarantine facilities have been kept ready in case of any suspected infection.

Dr. T Jitendra Kumar said authorities are following strict preventive measures to ensure public safety. He noted that international flights arrive at Gannavaram Airport three days a week—Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—and screening is being conducted for all incoming international passengers.

Officials also stated that none of the passengers screened had any recent travel history linked to African countries currently reporting Ebola outbreaks. Special isolation and quarantine rooms have been arranged at Siddhartha Medical College to handle any emergency situation if symptoms are detected later.

The heightened alert comes a day after health authorities in Bengaluru confirmed that a person isolated over suspected Ebola exposure tested negative for the virus. The individual, who had recently traveled from Uganda and reported mild body ache, was placed under observation as a precautionary step.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry said India currently has no confirmed Ebola cases. The ministry added that it is closely monitoring the outbreak situation in Africa in coordination with state governments and following World Health Organization guidelines after the WHO declared the outbreaks in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo a Public Health Emergency of International Concern earlier this month.
