Amit Shah Criticizes Congress Yatra, Says Party Shielding Infiltrators

Amit Shah accuses Congress of protecting infiltrators through the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah sharply criticized the Congress party’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” on Wednesday, accusing the opposition of organizing the rally to “protect infiltrators” and secure electoral victories with their support. Speaking at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi during an event marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, Shah inaugurated 17 public-welfare schemes of the Delhi government. He contrasted the Congress’s actions with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) support for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, aimed at ensuring the integrity of voter lists.

The Congress’s 14-day, 1,300-km “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar protested the Election Commission’s SIR exercise ahead of the state’s upcoming elections. Opposition parties, including Congress, claim the revision targets legitimate voters, potentially disenfranchising them. Shah, however, framed the yatra as an attempt to maintain infiltrators on voter rolls, alleging that Congress lacks faith in Indian voters and seeks to manipulate electoral outcomes.

Shah also praised Modi’s leadership, highlighting achievements such as elevating India to the world’s fourth-largest economy from the 11th rank under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He projected India would become the third-largest economy by 2027. Additionally, Shah lauded Modi’s border security measures, including surgical and air strikes, and his “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan. He credited Modi with lifting 25 crore people out of poverty and providing amenities to 60 crore citizens during his 11-year tenure.

Promoting economic self-reliance, Shah urged citizens to buy “swadeshi” products, noting that from September 22, 395 daily-use items would carry zero or 5% GST. He emphasized Modi’s vision of a prosperous India, portraying the prime minister as dedicated to the welfare of the nation’s 140 crore people, whom he considers family. Shah’s remarks underscored the BJP’s narrative of Modi’s transformative leadership while intensifying political tensions with the opposition ahead of Bihar’s polls.
