Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the high-level meeting at the State Convention Centre, with the participation of chief ministers, governors and key administrators representing all eight northeastern states. Officials indicated that the council would review recommendations submitted by several sector-specific task forces established to identify growth opportunities and address developmental challenges. These task forces have been working across sectors such as tourism, agriculture, sports, infrastructure and investment promotion. Their findings are expected to help shape policy decisions and guide future development initiatives across the region.

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia also highlighted the significance of the gathering, stating on X that stakeholders were united in their commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous Northeast. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma earlier noted that regional cooperation and the implementation of task force recommendations would be central themes of the discussions during the plenary.

Through its annual plenary sessions, the council provides a forum for the Centre and state governments to jointly review development initiatives, address common challenges and coordinate efforts aimed at ensuring balanced and sustainable growth across the strategically important region.
