Akasa Air Joins Global Aviation Elite: Secures IATA Membership Just 3 Years After Launch
Akasa Air joins IATA within three years of operations after securing the mandatory IOSA safety certification.
Mumbai-based Akasa Air has officially become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a global trade body representing over 360 airlines that account for more than 80% of worldwide air traffic. The airline achieved this milestone just three years after commencing operations, marking a significant achievement for the young carrier.
The membership was secured following Akasa Air’s successful completion of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a mandatory assessment that recognises international operational and safety standards. IOSA certification is a prerequisite for IATA membership and reflects adherence to stringent global benchmarks in airline operations.
IATA plays a critical role in shaping international aviation standards across safety, security, operational efficiency, technology, and sustainability. It also provides a platform for collaboration among airlines, regulators, and industry stakeholders, enhancing coordination and best practices worldwide.

Industry experts say Akasa Air’s induction into IATA strengthens the airline’s global standing and opens doors for active participation in international aviation dialogue. The carrier is expected to contribute to initiatives focused on safety management, digital transformation, and sustainable aviation practices.
Sheldon Hee, IATA’s regional vice president for Asia-Pacific, welcomed Akasa Air, stating, “India’s aviation potential is huge, supporting 7.7 million jobs and generating US$53.6 billion in economic contribution. We look forward to Akasa Air’s active participation in shaping the airline industry’s priorities in India, the Asia-Pacific, and globally.”
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said the membership reflects the airline’s disciplined growth and commitment to global standards of safety, operational excellence, and sustainability. He added that IATA membership would enhance Akasa Air’s international credibility and position it as a future-ready, globally recognized Indian airline.
