Air India Gets DGCA Approval For Flight Duty Time Relief Amid Conflict

DGCA allows Air India temporary flight duty time relaxations amid Middle East conflict.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted temporary flight duty time relaxations to Air India amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted operations of flights in and around conflict-affected regions, while safeguarding the safety and well-being of crew members.

According to the DGCA, the relaxations allow Air India pilots and cabin crew to operate extended duty periods on certain international flights, provided strict safety protocols are followed. The measure comes in response to travel disruptions and rerouting requirements caused by geopolitical instability in the Gulf region.

The decision follows reports of increased military activity and airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East, which have affected normal flight schedules. Airlines operating in these areas often face longer flight times due to detours around conflict zones, creating additional pressure on crew duty limits under standard aviation regulations.

DGCA officials emphasized that the relaxations are temporary and will remain in force only as long as the operational disruptions persist. The regulatory body will continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that safety standards for crew and passengers are strictly maintained.

Air India welcomed the announcement, stating that the relaxations will help maintain connectivity between India and key international destinations while minimizing delays caused by airspace diversions. The airline has also reassured passengers that all safety protocols are being rigorously observed during flights affected by the Middle East situation.

The development highlights the challenges faced by commercial airlines in maintaining schedules amid geopolitical tensions. Authorities and operators are working together to balance operational needs with crew welfare, while keeping international air travel as safe and reliable as possible under the circumstances.
