Air India And WestJet Announce Interline Agreement Covering US And Canadian Cities

Border conflict near Pakistan leaves Afghan schools destroyed, displacing thousands of children and disrupting education.

Air India and Canadian carrier WestJet have announced a new interline partnership aimed at expanding connectivity between India and destinations across North America. The agreement will allow passengers to book single-ticket itineraries that combine Air India’s long-haul flights with WestJet’s domestic and transborder network, creating smoother onward travel options beyond major Canadian hubs.

Under the partnership, Air India passengers flying to Toronto or Vancouver will be able to connect onward on WestJet services to 17 Canadian cities and 14 cities in the United States. The expanded network significantly increases access to secondary destinations across both countries, offering travellers a wider range of routing options through a single booking and coordinated baggage handling.

The Canadian cities included in the network feature Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna, St. John’s, Victoria and several smaller regional destinations. In the United States, key destinations such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit, Orlando, Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Diego are among those covered under the agreement, strengthening connectivity between India and major North American urban and leisure hubs.

The partnership also extends connectivity through Air India’s European gateways, including Amsterdam, Paris, London Heathrow and London Gatwick, allowing additional routing flexibility for select destinations such as Halifax, Calgary and St. John’s. This multi-hub structure is designed to improve travel efficiency for passengers connecting between India, Europe and North America.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, said the collaboration enhances travel convenience by offering coordinated baggage services, single-ticket bookings and a broader choice of destinations. He noted that Canada remains an important market for the airline due to strong people-to-people ties and growing trade links between the two countries.

WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill said the agreement strengthens access between India and Canada while improving seamless connectivity across North America. He added that bookings for interline itineraries are available through Air India’s website, mobile application and global travel agents, marking a step toward more integrated international travel options for passengers.
