Adani Ports Launches Empty Container Yard With Integrated Warehousing At Mundra
New facility aims to streamline container handling and reduce logistics costs.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) will launch a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) with integrated warehousing at Mundra, aimed at improving efficiency across the container logistics chain. The facility will provide end-to-end services covering empty container storage, maintenance, inspection and movement to exporters and container freight stations (CFSs).
The initiative is part of APSEZ's 'Ambition 2031' roadmap, under which the company is investing in expanding capacity across its network. The Adani Group company plans to add more than 6 million TEUs of container-handling capacity over the next five years, with Mundra continuing to play a key role in its expansion strategy.
The dedicated ECY will be operated by APSEZ and/or its partners, including CFS operators and shipping lines. According to APSEZ, the facility is expected to enable faster container turnaround, reduce unnecessary movements and help optimise logistics costs. The company also linked the project to efforts to strengthen trade infrastructure and support India's long-term economic growth.

APSEZ currently holds a 45.5 per cent share of India's container market, based on FY26 figures. Mundra Port alone handles nearly 35 per cent of the country's container trade, making it India's largest container-handling port. The company estimates that around 1.6 million TEUs of empty containers are handled at Mundra each year, highlighting the port's importance to India's import-export supply chains.
The initiative also aligns with the government's focus on developing efficient and technology-enabled logistics infrastructure and improving the ease of doing business. APSEZ operates a network of 16 strategically located ports and terminals, supported by a marine fleet of 136 vessels and integrated logistics capabilities. The company currently has cargo-handling capacity of 653 million tonnes per annum and handles approximately 27 per cent of India's total port volumes. APSEZ is targeting throughput of 1 billion tonnes by 2030 as it continues to expand its port, container and logistics infrastructure across the country.
