Adani Energy Solutions Bags Rs 8,500-Crore Transmission Project In Andhra Pradesh
Adani secures major Andhra power transmission project.
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has secured an ₹8,500-crore inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh aimed at supporting upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the Visakhapatnam region. The company, part of the Adani Group and one of India’s largest private transmission and distribution firms, announced that it emerged as the successful bidder under the Government of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.
The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” is designed to strengthen power infrastructure required for large-scale clean energy projects in the region. The transmission system will help integrate and supply electricity to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities, which are expected to create an estimated demand of 4,500 MW.
The project will be developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Vizag Power Transmission Ltd. Its scope includes the establishment of a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam and a 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation. AESL will also add 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity after completing the project.

AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said the Vizag transmission project would play an important role in building the energy infrastructure needed for India’s future industrial growth. He said the project would support the expansion of green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the electricity grid for rising demand from digital infrastructure and emerging industries in the Pendurthi–Vizag region.
Visakhapatnam is increasingly developing as a major hub for digital infrastructure, supported by planned artificial intelligence and hyperscale data centre projects, subsea connectivity initiatives, logistics networks, and clean energy investments. As green fuel production and data-driven industries expand, reliable high-capacity transmission infrastructure will be crucial for ensuring stable power supply, grid reliability, and long-term industrial growth.
The project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months. Following its execution, AESL’s overall transmission network will expand to 29,531 circuit kilometres, with total transformation capacity increasing to 1,33,675 MVA. The company said the project reflects its focus on developing resilient and future-ready power networks to support India’s transition towards a cleaner and technology-driven economy.
