49 Lakh People Face Flood Impact Across Bihar As Rivers Swell
Floods affect millions as rivers continue swelling across Bihar.
More than 49 lakh people across 15 districts of Bihar have been affected by floods as heavy rainfall and rising river levels continue to worsen the situation in several parts of the state. Major rivers, including the Ganga and Kosi, have been flowing above their danger marks, adding to concerns in flood-prone areas. The state has recorded 111.7 mm of rainfall so far in September, around 13 per cent above normal.
The worsening situation has been linked to heavy rainfall in Bihar and upstream areas, including parts of Nepal, which has contributed to increased water levels in several rivers. With rivers continuing to swell, large populations in affected districts are facing disruption, while authorities remain focused on relief and rescue operations. The latest figures indicate that the scale of the flooding has expanded across the state in recent days.
Relief measures have been stepped up in the affected areas, with community kitchens and relief camps providing assistance to people impacted by the floods. A total of 1,260 community kitchens have been operating to provide food, while 13 relief camps are assisting more than 11,000 people. Disaster response teams have also been deployed in several districts to support rescue and relief operations.

The State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force teams are involved in the ongoing response as authorities monitor river levels and the flood situation. The continuing rise of major rivers remains a concern, particularly for communities living in low-lying areas and near riverbanks. Officials are coordinating relief measures as the administration assesses the impact across the affected districts.
The flooding comes amid an unusually wet September in Bihar, with rainfall so far standing above the monthly normal. The combination of rainfall and elevated river levels has kept several areas vulnerable to further flooding. Authorities are continuing to monitor weather and river conditions while maintaining relief arrangements for affected communities.
With more than 49 lakh people already affected, the focus remains on providing food, shelter and other essential assistance while strengthening rescue operations in vulnerable areas. The deployment of SDRF and NDRF personnel, along with the network of community kitchens and relief camps, forms a key part of the ongoing response as Bihar deals with the continuing flood situation.
