Yogi Adityanath Urges No Namaz On Roads, Advocates Designated Spaces
Yogi Adityanath said namaz should not be offered on roads and suggested organised prayer arrangements in shifts.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday stated that offering namaz on public roads should not be permitted, asserting that roads are meant for traffic movement and public convenience rather than religious or other activities that obstruct them. His remarks came during an event where he addressed issues related to public order and the use of civic spaces.
The Chief Minister said that religious gatherings involving large numbers of people must be conducted in an organised manner at designated locations, and if necessary, arranged in shifts to prevent overcrowding and inconvenience to commuters. He emphasised that public infrastructure such as roads and intersections cannot be used in ways that disrupt daily movement.
Yogi Adityanath claimed that such practices are no longer occurring in Uttar Pradesh and said people are free to verify the situation themselves. He reiterated that no individual or group has the authority to block roads for any activity and maintained that public spaces must remain accessible for transportation and civic use.

He further suggested that when the number of participants in religious events exceeds available space, arrangements should be made in multiple batches or shifts rather than allowing gatherings to spill onto roads or open areas. He added that administrative solutions had previously been proposed to manage large crowds in an orderly manner.
Reaffirming his position, the Chief Minister said that while religious practices would not be stopped, they must be conducted in a way that does not inconvenience the general public. He also shared remarks on social media, stressing the need for discipline in the use of public spaces and reiterating that law and order applies equally to all citizens.
