Petrol Diesel Prices Unchanged On May 29 In Delhi Mumbai And Other Cities
No hike in petrol and diesel prices on May 29 across major Indian cities.
Petrol and diesel prices in India remained largely unchanged on May 29, 2026, with only minor fluctuations of a few paise across major cities. This marks a pause after the fourth price hike in less than 12 days, when fuel rates were increased by Rs 2.6 per litre for petrol and Rs 2.7 per litre for diesel on Monday.
Since the start of the US-Iran war, fuel prices have surged by Rs 7.5–8 per litre as global oil prices rallied due to ongoing Middle East conflict. However, on May 29, prices stabilized as Brent crude slipped toward $93 a barrel, down 18% for the month, and West Texas Intermediate traded near $88. Investor sentiment improved after reports emerged that the US and Iran had tentatively agreed to extend a ceasefire by 60 days, potentially allowing unrestricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
In Delhi, petrol is now priced at Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs 95.20 per litre. Mumbai sees petrol at Rs 111.18/litre and diesel at Rs 97.83/litre. Kolkata’s petrol price is Rs 113.51/litre with diesel at Rs 99.82/litre. Chennai’s petrol costs Rs 107.74/litre and diesel Rs 99.55/litre. Bengaluru records petrol at Rs 110.93/litre and diesel at Rs 98.80/litre, while Hyderabad has the highest petrol price at Rs 115.73/litre and diesel at Rs 103.82/litre.

Indian consumers are facing sharp rises in fuel expenses, with petrol prices in several cities racing toward the Rs 114-per-litre mark, exposing widening cost gaps across states. State-owned oil firms are incurring losses of Rs 1,600–1,700 crore per day, totaling over Rs 1 lakh crore in 10 weeks amid the crisis driven by global oil price volatility and geopolitical tensions.
Fuel prices in India depend primarily on global crude oil prices, which serve as the main raw material for petrol and diesel production. The rupee–dollar exchange rate also significantly influences prices since India imports most of its crude oil requirements. Additionally, central excise duty and state-level VAT heavily impact final retail prices, which is why rates vary significantly across cities and states.
The brief pause in fuel price hikes on May 29 offers temporary relief to consumers, but the situation remains volatile amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Any breakthrough in US-Iran negotiations could further ease global oil supply disruptions and potentially stabilize fuel prices in the coming weeks, though officials caution that prices remain sensitive to Middle East developments.
