India Celebrates Gandhi, Shastri: Leaders Share Heartfelt Tributes Today

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 156th birth anniversary and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s birth anniversary, prominent leaders across India, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, paid heartfelt tributes to the iconic figures whose contributions shaped the nation’s history. The leaders emphasized the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and unity, alongside Shastri’s legacy of simplicity and patriotism.
In Mysuru, Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reflected on Gandhi’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle, stating, “His fight and sacrifice secured our freedom. We pray for strength to follow his path of peace and unity.” He also lauded Shastri as the “most honest person,” invoking his call for simplicity and service. Siddaramaiah extended Vijayadashami greetings, urging citizens to embrace these values during the festive season.
In Guwahati, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed Gandhi’s timeless ideals of non-violence and compassion, noting, “Pujya Bapu’s vision continues to guide our public service journey.” On X, Sarma celebrated Shastri’s iconic slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” which continues to inspire courage and self-reliance across the nation.

West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee, in a poignant social media post from Kolkata, described Gandhi’s name as “etched in golden letters” in history. Quoting his prayer, “Ishwar Allah tero naam, sabko sanmati de bhagwan,” she emphasized his message of religious tolerance and harmony. “In times of growing divisiveness, we must uphold Gandhi’s teachings of peace and unity,” Banerjee urged, calling for reflection on his timeless values.
In Andhra Pradesh, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu honored Gandhi on the International Day of Non-violence. Nazeer called for rededicating ourselves to truth and non-violence, while Naidu praised Gandhi’s leadership in uniting the nation against British rule. “His values must inspire our younger generation,” Naidu posted on X. YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy echoed this sentiment, stressing that “freedom must be equal for all,” paying respects to Gandhi’s inclusive vision.
The collective tributes underscore the profound impact of Gandhi’s non-violent resistance and Shastri’s humble leadership. As India celebrates Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri’s legacy, leaders across states are urging citizens to embrace these ideals to foster peace, unity, and progress in a rapidly changing world.
