Andhra Pradesh Drives India’s 10,900 e-Bus Mission Towards a Greener Tomorrow

Andhra Pradesh to receive major allocation in India’s 10,900 e-bus rollout, led by CESL initiative.

Andhra Pradesh is poised to secure a substantial portion of India’s largest electric bus procurement initiative, with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) prioritising five key cities in the state for the rollout of eco-friendly public transport under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme. The central government enterprise has received strong industry interest in its tender for 10,900 e-buses—the biggest such drive to date—aimed at accelerating the nation’s transition to sustainable urban mobility and supporting the Net Zero Emissions goal by 2070.

In the initial phase, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Nellore, and Tirupati will be the focus for deploying these zero-emission vehicles. CESL National Advisor A Chandra Sekhara Reddy announced on Sunday that the pre-bid process attracted robust participation from domestic and global manufacturers, prompting an extension of the submission deadline to November 2025 and bid opening on November 6.

Andhra Pradesh’s selection as a priority state reflects its proactive stance on energy efficiency, renewable integration, and e-mobility, alongside a proven track record in economic and environmental initiatives. CESL is draughting a dedicated action plan to ensure time-bound implementation tailored to the state’s needs.

The state government’s strategic push toward full electrification of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) fleet has earned appreciation from CESL officials, positioning it as a model for others. This alignment with national green transport objectives is expected to enhance urban air quality, reduce operational costs for public transit, and create new opportunities in the electric vehicle ecosystem.

As India’s electric mobility framework gains momentum, Andhra Pradesh’s early integration into the PM e-Bus Sewa programme signals a transformative shift in regional transportation infrastructure. With bidding underway and deployment plans advancing, the initiative promises cleaner, more efficient commutes while reinforcing the state’s leadership in sustainable development.
