UP CM Yogi Adityanath performs Rudrabhishek at Gorakhnath Temple on Mahashivratri and prays for humanity's welfare.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also serves as the head priest (Mahant) of the Gorakhnath Temple, performed the Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva on Sunday. The ceremony was conducted following age-old rituals, accompanied by Vedic chants, in honour of Mahashivratri, one of the most sacred festivals in the Hindu calendar.
After the ritual, CM Yogi took to X to convey his blessings, stating that the Rudrabhishek was performed with “restraint, meditation and Shivatva” and included prayers for the welfare of humanity. He concluded his message with the traditional invocation, “Har Har Mahadev,” invoking Lord Shiva’s blessings for peace and prosperity.
Earlier in the day, he extended greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh and across the country, wishing that Lord Shiva’s blessings bring strength, peace, and auspiciousness into everyone’s lives. His posts emphasized spiritual devotion and the significance of Mahashivratri in fostering moral and spiritual consciousness.

The festival, commemorating the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, saw devotees flocking to temples nationwide. Long queues, special pujas, night-long prayers, and holy dips in rivers marked the celebrations, reflecting the deep spiritual fervour associated with the occasion.
Authorities in major pilgrimage centres, including Gorakhpur, implemented extensive security and crowd management measures to ensure smooth darshan for the devotees. The event highlighted both the cultural and spiritual importance of Mahashivratri while reinforcing public safety protocols during large gatherings.
