Tamil Nadu Celebrates Vinayaka Chathurthi With Devotion

Devotees flood temples for vibrant Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations.

Tamil Nadu erupted in vibrant celebrations on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as devotees across the state marked Vinayaka Chathurthi with immense religious fervor. The festival, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and bestower of wisdom, saw thousands thronging temples and setting up colorful clay idols in homes and public spaces.

From early morning, devotees flocked to iconic temples like the Sri Karpaga Vinayaka Temple in Pillayarpatti, Sivaganga district, which was adorned with flowers and festive decorations. The Uchipillaiyar Shrine atop a hill in Tiruchirappalli buzzed with energy as large crowds offered prayers and sought blessings. Across Chennai, resident associations and Hindu organizations erected giant, elaborately decorated Ganesha idols in neighborhoods, transforming streets into vibrant hubs of devotion.

A key highlight of the celebrations was the offering of Kozhukattai, a traditional sweet delicacy made with jaggery and coconut, symbolizing devotion to Lord Ganesha. Special pujas and rituals were performed in homes and temples, with families and communities coming together to honor the deity.

The week-long festivities will culminate in grand processions, with the idols set to be immersed in the Bay of Bengal, marking a joyous farewell to Lord Ganesha. To ensure safety, Tamil Nadu police have deployed extensive security measures across the state, particularly around crowded temples and public installations, to prevent any untoward incidents.

Local resident Priya Shankar, a devotee at the Pillayarpatti temple, shared, “This festival brings us closer as a community. Offering prayers to Lord Ganesha gives us hope and strength for the year ahead.” The celebrations reflect Tamil Nadu’s deep cultural and spiritual connection to the festival, uniting people in devotion and joy.
