Ranchi’s Durga Puja Pandal Transforms into Massive Book Heaven
Unique gurukul-themed Durga Puja pandal captivates Ranchi visitors.
A breathtaking Durga Puja pandal in Ranchi, designed to resemble an ancient gurukul, has become the talk of the town, drawing thousands of devotees and book lovers alike. Located at Argora Chowk, this magnificent structure, crafted with 21,000 carefully selected books, transforms the traditional pandal into a grand library-like haven, celebrating knowledge and spirituality.
The Shri Durga Puja & Ravana Dahan Committee, Argora, spearheaded this innovative project. Committee president Pankaj Sahu shared, "Each year, we aim to create something unique. This time, we chose the gurukul theme to honor our ancient knowledge system and inspire today’s youth to embrace reading." The pandal features an eclectic collection of books, including sacred texts like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavad Gita, alongside works on the Indian Constitution, science, history, the Hindi alphabet, and the Jharkhand movement.
Spanning 50 feet by 40 feet, the pandal houses a stunning 14-foot idol of Goddess Durga, surrounded by books that create a serene and intellectual ambiance. A 15-foot peepal tree stands prominently in front, symbolizing the gurukul tradition, with depictions of sadhus and disciples engrossed in religious texts, facing the goddess. The intricate setup, costing approximately Rs 38 lakh, includes elaborate lighting and idol craftsmanship, enhancing the pandal’s majestic appeal.

Visitors have been mesmerized by the fusion of spirituality and knowledge, with many describing the pandal as a "temple of learning."
The committee’s efforts have not only elevated the festive spirit but also sparked conversations about preserving India’s rich literary and cultural heritage. As Ranchi celebrates Durga Puja, this gurukul-themed pandal stands as a testament to creativity and devotion, leaving an indelible mark on all who visit.
