Falgun Amavasya 2025: Know The Date, Significance and Rituals

Falgun Amavasya, the last Amavasya of the Hindu calendar, holds immense spiritual significance.

This auspicious day is dedicated to honouring ancestors, seeking their blessings, and performing rituals to remove obstacles and karmic debts. Many devotees observe fasting, offer prayers, and participate in charitable acts to attain peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

This year, it falls on February 27, 2025. It begins at 8:54 AM and ends at 6:14 AM on February 28, 2025.

Falgun Amavasya is believed to be a powerful day for appeasing ancestors and resolving Pitra Dosha—ancestral karma that may cause difficulties in one’s life. It is said that on this day, gods and goddesses reside on the banks of sacred rivers, making rituals performed here especially fruitful. Bathing in the holy waters of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati is thought to absolve sins and grant moksha (salvation).

This Amavasya also holds astrological importance, as it falls before Holi and near Maha Shivaratri, a time of heightened spiritual energy. Observing prayers and rituals on this day is believed to bring happiness, financial stability, and overall well-being.

Rituals to Follow on Falgun Amavasya 2025

1. Sacred Bathing: Start the day with a dip in a holy river or add Gangajal to your bath water at home.
2. Tarpan & Pind Daan: Offer water, sesame seeds, and rice balls (pind) to ancestors to seek their blessings.
3. Fasting & Donations: Observe a fast and donate food, clothing, black gram, and sesame seeds to the needy and Brahmins.
4. Lighting a Lamp: In the evening, light a mustard oil lamp under a Peepal tree and circumambulate it seven times for ancestral peace.
5. Feeding Cows: If donating a cow is not possible, feeding fodder to cows is considered highly auspicious.

By observing these rituals with devotion, devotees can seek divine blessings, eliminate Pitra Dosha, and invite prosperity into their lives.
