Bengali Durga Pooja Pandals Bring Divine Themes and Cultural Splendor to Bengaluru

Navaratri celebrations blend spirituality, artistry, and Bengali traditions with vibrant decorations and community gatherings.

As Navaratri approaches, Bengaluru’s Bengali community is preparing to transform the city into a vibrant hub of faith, art, and cultural celebration with its iconic Durga Pooja pandals. Beginning on Shashti, the sixth day of Navaratri, and culminating on Vijaya Dashami, the tenth day, these pandals honor Goddess Durga’s triumph over the demon king Mahishasura. The festival, deeply rooted in Bengali tradition, serves as a dynamic platform for showcasing creativity, community bonding, and devotion, drawing thousands of visitors across the city.

Among the standout celebrations is the Oikotan Hebbal Durgotsav-2025, held near Green Country Public School on Airport Road. This year, the pandal embraces the theme of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, blending divine power with the scripture’s timeless teachings.

According to Oikotan president Soma Bose, the event, which began in 2013, has earned multiple 'Sharad Samman' awards for its exceptional themes, idols, and decorations. “Our pandal this year will present a visually stunning representation of the Gita’s values, a first-of-its-kind display in Bengaluru,” Bose said. The event promises a fusion of artistic finesse and spiritual reverence, cementing its status as a landmark in India’s Silicon City.

Another highlight is the RT Nagar Socio Cultural Trust’s 19th Durga Pooja, set for September 27 to October 2 at Princess Green, Palace Grounds. Themed “Mukti” (Freedom), the pandal reflects liberation from fear, injustice, and spiritual constraints. Sanjay Bhattacharjee, the Trust’s chief secretary, noted that artisans from Kolkata’s Krishnanagar will craft intricate clay idols adorned with traditional jewelry and vibrant garments.

Chandan Nagar’s renowned light technicians will illuminate the venue, creating an immersive Kolkata-style festive experience. The event will also feature 90 stalls showcasing authentic Bengali cuisine and popular brands.

Other notable pandals across Bengaluru, including those in Jayamahal, Indira Nagar, Malleswaram, Rajaji Nagar, and HSR Layout, will further enrich the festivities. Vishwarup Roy of Team Maitree Bandhaan highlighted vibrant celebrations at East Bengaluru Cultural Association, Whitefield Cultural Association, and KR Puram’s Arohan, Abhinandan, and Amtran.

These pandals, adorned with intricate decorations and cultural performances, reflect Bengaluru’s growing embrace of Bengali traditions, uniting communities in a shared celebration of faith and artistry.
