Trump Sees NASA Chance For Crewed Moon Mission By 2029
Trump welcomes Artemis II crew, eyes crewed lunar landing ahead of 2029 schedule.
Donald Trump has said the United States has “a shot” at achieving a crewed Moon landing before the end of his presidency in 2029, expressing cautious optimism about the country’s space ambitions. The remarks came as he hosted astronauts from a recent lunar mission at the White House.
Speaking during the meeting, Trump avoided making definitive promises but indicated confidence in ongoing efforts led by NASA. “I think we have a good shot,” he said, while acknowledging the uncertainties involved in complex space missions.
The comments followed the successful completion of the Artemis II mission, which saw astronauts travel around the Moon earlier this month—the first crewed journey of its kind in more than five decades. The mission is considered a key step toward eventually landing humans back on the lunar surface.

The United States is currently targeting a crewed Moon landing around 2028 under NASA’s Artemis program. However, experts have raised concerns about whether critical technologies, including lunar landers being developed by private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, will be ready in time to meet that timeline.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, who was also present during the White House event, said the agency has an “achievable plan” to return astronauts to the Moon, reinforcing confidence in the program despite technical and logistical challenges.
The renewed push for a lunar landing comes amid growing global competition in space exploration, particularly from China, which has set its own target of landing astronauts on the Moon by around 2030. Trump’s remarks highlight the strategic importance the US places on maintaining leadership in space as the race to return to the lunar surface intensifies.
