Two British Car Enthusiasts Reach Kerala On World Tour In Vintage Bentleys

British duo showcases classic Bentleys in Kerala as part of their international world tour.

Two British vintage automobile enthusiasts on a global road tour have drawn crowds and admiration in Kerala, steering their prized 1926 Bentley tourer cars through lush landscapes as part of a remarkable historic journey. The septuagenarian duo from London has been capturing public imagination with their century‑old classics as they explore India’s scenic roads.

Robert (63) and John (72) are lifelong friends who embarked on a world tour in their meticulously maintained vintage Bentleys, covering four continents before arriving in India. Their vehicles aren’t just means of travel but rare exemplars of early automotive craftsmanship, now roaring through the coastal highways and hill roads of Kerala. The adventure began in Mumbai, where the cars were shipped from London to kick off the Indian leg of their expedition.

From Mumbai, the duo’s route took them along the Goa coastlines, through the misty Chikmagalur hills, across forested stretches near Kabini, and into the emerald hills of Wayanad. At each stop, the gleaming chrome and polished bodies of the nearly century‑old Bentleys have elicited fascination from locals and tourists alike, with many stopping to take photographs and learn about the cars’ storied past.

Robert, who owns a 6.5‑litre Bentley he acquired 15 years ago, explained that his passion for vintage vehicles fuels his zeal for this ambitious journey. The pair previously drove their classic cars across diverse terrains in North and South America, Europe, and Australia before starting in India, demonstrating not only the vehicles’ endurance but also their own steadfast spirit of adventure.

During their weekend stop in Thalappuzha near Mananthavady, the travellers enjoyed local hospitality and Kerala cuisine, making new acquaintances along the way. Resort staff said visitors were thrilled to hear about the duo’s global journey and even got a chance to ride in one of the historic Bentleys themselves.

Looking ahead, Robert and John plan to continue their Indian tour by visiting Kozhikode’s historic landmarks and traditional crafts, before making their way southward to Thiruvananthapuram. Thereafter, they expect to ship the vintage cars to Sri Lanka for the next chapter of their extraordinary expedition, hoping to explore new landscapes and cultures en route.
