Direct passenger flights between Delhi and Guangzhou will resume on September 21, with China Southern Airlines restarting regular services between the two cities after a six-year hiatus. The airline announced the resumption on Saturday, according to Global Times. The return of the route is expected to improve direct air connectivity between India and China and offer greater convenience to travellers heading to Guangzhou.

China Southern Airlines will operate more than 100 weekly flights across eight round-trip routes in South Asia. India and China have also been gradually restoring air connectivity this year after passenger services were disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic and amid tensions between the two countries following the Doklam and Galwan standoffs. The renewed Delhi-Guangzhou service could make the southern Chinese city more accessible to Indian visitors.

For first-time visitors, the Canton Tower is among Guangzhou’s most prominent attractions. The landmark offers panoramic views of the city and has observation facilities that provide visitors with a broad view of Guangzhou’s skyline. The tower is also known for its distinctive architecture and attractions, making it one of the city’s most recognisable destinations.

Shamian Island offers a different experience, with its pedestrian-friendly streets, tree-lined avenues and historic architecture. The area developed as a foreign trading enclave during the 19th century and retains European-style buildings associated with its British and French history. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is another major attraction, known for its traditional Cantonese architecture and intricate wood, brick, stone and ceramic craftsmanship dating to the late Qing Dynasty.

Yuexiu Park combines greenery with some of Guangzhou’s important historical landmarks. The city’s largest urban park is home to the Five-Rams Sculpture, an important symbol of Guangzhou, as well as the Zhenhai Tower and sections of the old Ming Dynasty city wall. Visitors can also explore the park’s lakes and landscaped areas while taking a break from the city’s busy streets.

A Pearl River night cruise offers another way to experience Guangzhou, particularly after sunset. The cruise provides views of illuminated bridges, historic structures and the modern skyline around the Zhujiang New Town financial district. With direct flights from Delhi returning, these attractions offer first-time Indian visitors a mix of Guangzhou’s modern landmarks, historical heritage, traditional architecture, green spaces and nighttime cityscape.
