Gojra Women Distribute Hot Tea to Tourists Stuck In Manali Snowfall Jam
Local women offer hot tea to tourists trapped in Manali snowfall.
A group of local women from Himachal Pradesh have won widespread praise after stepping forward to help stranded tourists during a severe snowstorm in Manali by serving them hot tea in freezing conditions. The act of kindness came as heavy snowfall brought life to a standstill in the popular hill station, leaving hundreds of visitors stuck in traffic for hours.
The incident occurred near Gojra village on the outskirts of Manali, where local women were seen carrying flasks of hot tea and calmly moving between vehicles to assist travelers trapped inside their cars. A video of the gesture went viral on social media, showing the women offering warmth and reassurance as temperatures dropped sharply amid persistent snowfall.
The snowfall marked the season’s first major winter storm and caused widespread disruption across Himachal Pradesh. According to officials, more than 680 roads were blocked statewide, while electricity and water supplies were hit in several areas. The situation worsened due to the heavy tourist rush over the Republic Day long weekend.

Over 600 tourists were reportedly stranded in and around Manali, with many forced to spend the night inside their vehicles. Some travelers were compelled to walk up to 20 kilometers through deep snow because of road closures and dangerous black ice conditions, particularly along the Kullu–Manali National Highway 3, where a traffic jam stretched for nearly 15 kilometers.
The women’s gesture sparked an outpouring of appreciation online, with users describing it as the “true spirit of Himachal.” Many praised the quiet, selfless nature of the act, highlighting how local communities often come forward to help visitors during crises without seeking attention or recognition.
Meanwhile, authorities continue efforts to clear snowbound routes across the state. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for further heavy rain and snowfall in districts including Chamba, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti until January 28. Officials have urged residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel until weather and road conditions improve.
