Want to Live to 115? Here's How You Can Do it!

World’s Oldest Woman, 115, Shares Secret to Longevity: Avoid Arguments

Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old British woman, has been named the world’s oldest living person by the Gerontology Research Group following the passing of Brazilian nun Sister Inah Canabarro, aged 116, on Wednesday.

From her nursing home in Surrey, Caterham revealed her secret to a long life: “Never arguing with anyone, I listen and I do what I like.”

Born on August 21, 1909, in Shipton Bellinger, England, Caterham grew up as the second youngest of eight siblings.

Her adventurous spirit led her to India at 18, where she worked as a nanny for three years. In 1931, she met her husband, Norman, a British army major, and together they lived in Hong Kong and Gibraltar, raising two daughters in the UK. Norman passed away in 1976.

Caterham’s remarkable journey was celebrated at Hallmark Lakeview Luxury Care Home in Camberley, where she resides.

On Thursday, the home shared photos on Facebook of her cutting a cake and wearing a “115” tiara, calling her “an inspiration” for her strength and wisdom.

Caterham’s age places her among the oldest ever recorded, though she trails French woman Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122 years and 164 days, per Guinness World Records. Her milestone underscores a life of resilience, marked by global travels and a philosophy of harmony, offering a timeless lesson in living well.
