Telangana Government Launches Health Scheme For Employees And Pensioners

State launches healthcare benefits for employees and pensioners.

The Telangana government on Friday launched the New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage for state government employees, pensioners and their dependent family members. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha formally launched the scheme at the State Secretariat, where they also distributed health cards and inaugurated the NEHS digital portal.

The government said the scheme has been designed to offer quality, accessible and affordable healthcare through cashless treatment at an expanded network of empanelled hospitals. Around 8 lakh government employees and pensioners, along with nearly 29.8 lakh dependent family members, are expected to benefit. Eligible beneficiaries will be able to access free in-patient treatment at 886 empanelled private hospitals across Telangana.

According to the government, the scheme covers 1,816 medical treatments and surgical procedures, with package rates aligned to the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). A dedicated trust, comprising government officials and representatives of employee unions, has been constituted to oversee the implementation of the programme and ensure transparency, accountability and smooth functioning.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the initiative aims to strengthen health security for government employees and prevent families from falling into debt due to medical expenses. He said the scheme was developed after extensive consultations by a Cabinet sub-committee constituted by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, with the objective of creating a comprehensive and cashless healthcare system for state employees and pensioners.

The Deputy Chief Minister also criticised the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, alleging that it had left unpaid bills worth Rs 10,000 crore. He said the present government has been releasing around Rs 2,000 crore every month to clear pending dues and is regularly reviewing the process to ensure timely payments. He added that improving education and healthcare remains a key priority of the state government.

Bhatti Vikramarka further highlighted that the government has increased the Rajiv Arogyasri health insurance coverage from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, extending free corporate-level medical treatment to over 1.06 crore eligible families. He urged government employees to continue supporting the implementation of welfare programmes across the state. The launch event was attended by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, senior government officials and representatives of employee unions.
