Ramayana Trailer Launch Postponed, Will Now Release Globally at Later Date
Ramayana trailer's San Diego launch postponed; global release planned for later date.
The much-awaited trailer of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana will not be released as originally planned during the San Diego Comic-Con event, with producer Namit Malhotra announcing that the launch has been postponed for a later global release. The announcement came just hours before the scheduled unveiling, surprising fans who were expecting the first full look at the ambitious mythological epic. Malhotra said the decision was made following the film's partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which aims to position the project as a worldwide cinematic event.
In a statement shared on social media, Malhotra described the collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment as a significant milestone for Indian cinema. He said the trailer would now be launched globally at a later date, adding that the film is intended to be presented internationally on the scale of a major Hollywood production. According to the producer, the project represents an opportunity to introduce India's cultural heritage and storytelling traditions to audiences across the world with renewed pride and enthusiasm.
The postponement comes shortly after the makers held a private preview of the trailer in New Delhi, attended by the film's principal cast and crew. Although the preview generated excitement, the public will now have to wait for the official release. Malhotra also thanked fans for their continued support and expressed confidence that the film would become a landmark moment in the history of Indian cinema by reaching a truly global audience.

Ramayana is among the most expensive films ever produced in India. Producer Namit Malhotra has previously revealed that the combined budget for the two-part franchise is approximately $500 million, or more than ₹4,000 crore. He said the project has been in development for several years and aims to deliver a cinematic experience on a scale comparable to the world's biggest productions while remaining financially disciplined and focused on quality.
The film's music has also attracted significant attention, with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer collaborating with A.R. Rahman for the first time. Rahman has described the project as both exciting and challenging, saying the creative team is attempting to present one of India's most iconic epics in a fresh way while respecting its cultural importance. The composers aim to create a score that resonates with Indian audiences while appealing to viewers worldwide.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey in key roles. The film will be released in two parts, with the first installment scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release ahead of Diwali in October 2026, followed by the second part during Diwali 2027. The makers are expected to announce a new date for the global trailer launch in the coming weeks.
