Rain Can Ruin Your Sneakers: Asian Footwears CEO Reveals Protection Tips
Expert advice to protect sneakers during rainy season.
Monsoon season can be challenging for sneaker lovers, as rain, mud, and moisture can quickly damage footwear if proper care is not taken. From water exposure affecting materials to damp conditions causing unpleasant odours and mould, sneakers require regular maintenance to remain fresh and durable during the rainy months.
According to Aayush Jindal, CEO of Asian Footwears, simple preventive steps can help protect sneakers from monsoon-related damage. He recommends taking basic precautions before and after wearing shoes in wet conditions, as consistent care can improve their appearance, comfort, and lifespan.
One of the key suggestions is to waterproof sneakers before the monsoon begins. Using a suitable water-repellent spray based on the shoe material can reduce water absorption and make cleaning easier. This protective layer helps prevent moisture from affecting fabrics, leather, and adhesives used in footwear construction.

Jindal also advises allowing wet sneakers to dry naturally instead of exposing them to direct sunlight or artificial heat. Placing paper inside the shoes can help absorb moisture, while keeping them in a well-ventilated area allows them to dry properly and reduces the risk of cracked materials, damaged soles, or shape distortion.
Another important habit is rotating footwear instead of wearing the same pair every day during the rainy season. Giving sneakers time to dry completely between uses can prevent moisture buildup and reduce unpleasant smells. Cleaning mud quickly with a soft brush and damp cloth can also stop stains from becoming permanent.
Proper storage is equally important during monsoon months. Damp sneakers should never be placed inside closed cupboards, as trapped moisture can encourage mould growth and damage the material. Keeping shoes in a dry, airy space with paper inserts or shoe trees can help maintain their shape and keep them in better condition throughout the season.
