Helen Proves Age is No Barrier: Shares 4 Strength Exercises for Seniors

86-year-old Helen demonstrates four simple exercises with trainer Yasmin to improve balance, strength and walking.

Veteran actor Helen, 86, has once again inspired fans by proving that age is no barrier to staying active and healthy. In a recent Instagram video shared by celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, the legendary dancer demonstrated simple balance and strength exercises aimed at improving mobility, especially walking stability, for older adults.

In the video, Helen explains her motivation to work out even in her late eighties, saying regular exercise keeps her mentally motivated and physically strong. She highlights how movement supports overall health, improves balance, and sharpens focus while walking. Yasmin, who trains Helen, noted that the actor’s videos have become a source of inspiration for people across age groups.

The first exercise demonstrated was Sit-to-Stand, a functional movement designed to build leg and core strength. Yasmin instructed Helen to shift weight onto her legs and ankles, stand up using her abdominal muscles, and repeat the motion. To increase difficulty and strength, Helen was encouraged to perform the movement without using her hands for support.

The second exercise, heel raises, focused on improving ankle mobility and lower-leg strength. Using a chair for balance, Helen slowly lifted her heels off the ground and lowered them back down in a controlled manner, with emphasis on breathing throughout the movement.

Next, Helen showcased leg raises, an exercise aimed at enhancing balance. Holding onto a chair, she lifted one leg up to hip height and held the position while engaging her core. Once stable, she briefly released the chair to further challenge her balance. The routine concluded with walking drills, combining knee lifts and coordinated arm movements, with Yasmin stressing the importance of looking straight ahead rather than down to maintain posture and direction.

The video has been widely praised online for reinforcing the message that consistent, mindful movement can significantly improve quality of life at any age. A disclaimer accompanying the post notes that the exercises are for informational purposes only and advises viewers to consult medical professionals before starting any new fitness routine.
