Officials Collect Food Samples During MSPC Inspection
Food safety officials in Dakshina Kannada inspected the Mangaluru Taluk and Urban Mahila Supplementary Production Centre (MSPC) and seized samples of Pushti and millet laddu mix for testing. The inspection was conducted on the directions issued during the second quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting chaired by Karnataka Health Minister U T Khader. The action was aimed at checking the quality and safety of supplementary food products prepared at the centre and ensuring that they comply with prescribed food safety requirements.
Dakshina Kannada District Food Safety Designated Officer Dr Praveen Kumar C H conducted the inspection as part of the district authorities’ monitoring of food products prepared under supplementary nutrition programmes. Officials visited the MSPC and examined the food production-related activities and products available at the facility. Samples of Pushti and millet laddu mix were collected and seized for further testing. The laboratory examination will help determine whether the products meet the required food safety and quality standards.
Mahila Supplementary Production Centres prepare supplementary food items that are supplied through programmes implemented by the Women and Child Development Department. Such products form part of nutrition-related initiatives and are intended for distribution to beneficiaries covered under government programmes. Ensuring that these products are prepared, handled and supplied in accordance with food safety requirements is therefore an important part of the monitoring process. The latest inspection followed the directions issued during the KDP meeting and focused specifically on the MSPC in Mangaluru.

The collection of samples is part of the standard process through which food safety authorities can assess the quality of a product. Food safety inspections of centres involved in preparing supplementary nutrition products are significant because the items are intended for beneficiaries under government-supported programmes.
