Fermenta and NIFTEM-T Join Forces to Boost Food Fortification

Partnership to enhance India’s nutritional security.

Fermenta Biotech Limited, a global leader in Vitamin D3 production, has signed a strategic MoU with the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), facilitated by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). The collaboration aims to advance food fortification, focusing on staples like edible oil and wheat flour, to combat micronutrient deficiencies in India.

Signed during a symposium on Vitamin D fortification on July 10, the MoU establishes a framework for innovation, research, and knowledge exchange. Fermenta will support NIFTEM-T’s Centre of Excellence for Food Fortification (CEFF) with technical expertise and infrastructure, fostering development and dissemination of fortified food technologies. The partnership also offers internships, sponsored research, and startup incubation for food-related ventures.

The event, attended by FSSAI CEO G. Kamala Vardhana Rao and NIFTEM-T Chairperson Dr. R.S. Sodhi, highlighted a shared commitment to public health. Fermenta’s Managing Director, Prashant Nagre, emphasized science-driven solutions, while NIFTEM-T Director Prof. V. Palanimuthu noted the alignment with their mission to drive food processing innovation. GAIN’s Dr. Bhuvaneswari Balasubramanian praised the cross-sectoral effort for sustainable nutrition improvements.
