Doctor Explains Why Vaccines Don't Overwhelm The Immune System
Physician debunks six common myths surrounding vaccination and immune safety.
Vaccines remain an important tool in preventing serious infectious diseases and reducing the risk of complications, hospitalisation and death. Despite their established benefits, misinformation continues to create doubts about vaccination among some people. Physician Dr Amit Prakash Singh has addressed six common myths, explaining that recommended vaccines are designed to prepare the immune system to respond to specific infections without causing the diseases they are meant to prevent.
One common misconception is that vaccines can cause the diseases they are designed to protect against. Dr Singh explained that most vaccines use inactivated or weakened components of a pathogen, or specific parts of it, to train the immune system. Mild reactions such as fever, tiredness or soreness after vaccination generally indicate that the immune system is responding rather than that the person has developed the disease itself.
Another concern is that receiving several vaccines could overwhelm the immune system. According to Dr Singh, the immune system encounters microorganisms and other foreign substances every day and is capable of handling the immune responses triggered by recommended vaccines. Vaccination schedules are developed after extensive research to ensure that vaccines can be administered safely and effectively according to age and individual requirements.

The physician also clarified that vaccination is not limited to childhood. Adolescents and adults may require certain vaccines or booster doses depending on their age, health circumstances, occupation, travel plans and previous immunisation history. He also cautioned against assuming that natural infection is always preferable to vaccination, as contracting some diseases can result in serious complications, whereas vaccination can provide protection without requiring a person to experience the illness itself.
Dr Singh further explained that a vaccine does not necessarily have to prevent every infection to be valuable. Some vaccines may not completely eliminate the possibility of infection, but they can significantly lower the risk of severe disease and complications. He also rejected the idea that people who feel healthy do not need vaccination, noting that feeling well does not necessarily mean a person is protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.
The physician urged people to rely on qualified medical professionals and established vaccination guidelines rather than social media claims or personal anecdotes when making decisions about immunisation. Vaccination can protect individuals while also reducing the risk of spreading certain diseases to people who may be more vulnerable or unable to receive particular vaccines. He stressed that vaccination decisions should be based on scientific evidence and individual medical advice.
